Offering free eBook and PDF downloads of Dan Conover's novel "The Key to Darbas" as an experiment in creating the world's first "community license" for a fan-owned fictional universe.

Big Upgrade to the e-book version

The first reader to report using the e-book was Reader No. 3, Dewey Sasser, and he sent me a screenshot that demonstrated just how poorly formatted the book was. Some quick research on my part led me to a necessary series of fixes, and tonight there's a GREATLY improved second version of the .PRC file available for download for your Kindle, your iPhone, your Blackberry or even your home PC.

First readers

After soft-launching this project yesterday on XARK (with plugs on Twitter and Facebook and a nice link from Dan T. at Lowcountry Bloggers), I'm happy to report two new readers:

Reader 1: Andy Rhinehart, of Tryon, NC.
Reader 2: Calvin D. Webster II, of Charleston, SC.

Reader 3: Dewey Sasser, Charlton, Mass.

Sept. 4 update -- more known readers:

The e-Book & PDF versions are up

As my "August of Getting Things Done" draws to a close, I've posted two free versions of The Key to Darbas over at my personal site

The PDF version is optimized for your home printer and runs about 220 pages if you're looking for a copy you can run through a three-hole punch and stick in a binder.

Hello World!

So begins DarbasWeb, a home for my fantasy/sci-fi hybrid novel The Key to Darbas and a lab for my ideas about 21st century publishing and community-based licensing. Here's hoping it turns into something that's as valuable to other people as it is for me!
